Jeremiah 12:3 says, “You know me, O Lord; You see me and test my thoughts about you.”  It’s it wonderful to konw that God knows me.  The creator of Heaven and Earth actually knows me and loves me.  It’s interesting how this verse says God tests our thoughts about him.  Lord are my thoughts about you what they should be?  Test my thoughts and transform me into the Man of God you want me to be.

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Eph. 5:33

As I enter into this covenant relationship with my wife April 13th 2007, I pray that God would begin to work on my heart and help me become the husband that Leslee deserves.  We’ve completed a pre-maritial class and I believe we have learned a great deal from it, but I know much will be learned through our personal experiences and trials.  I look forward to loving my wife more and more each day as we share life together.  Lord I commit my marriage to you and have your way with us.

Psalm 139:13-16 is a special passage.  It speaks about how God formed me in my mother’s womb.  He made me special and knew me before I was born.  God has a very special plan for my life.

Lord you are amazing.  You truly Know me.  You made me who I am and set before me a beautiful life.  I want to know you more.  I want to live my life according to your will and fulfill the special plans you have for me.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. Proverbs 3:5-7

Lord I make this my prayer today.  I’m tired of leaning on my own understanding.  It simply will not and does not work.  I acknowledge You and I pray that You will make my path straight.  I want your wisdom and I want to turn away from evil.  Amen

Many of the devotional scriptures pertaining to Character I want to Cultivate have been touching my heart.  I believe that is because God has been working on my character as a leader in my ministry.  I want to be someone my co-workers can follow.  I have learned so much from the mentors in my life and I believe now it is time I start pouring into the lives around me.

Lord help me to be a Man after your own heart.  Cultivate the character that you want me to have.  Transform my heart and remove anything that hinders me from fulfilling Your call on my life.

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:3-5

Rejoice in our sufferings.  Sound like something no would naturally do.  However, I have experience how suffering produces perseverance.  If everything was fine and dandy all the time then our faith would never be tested.  My character and hope has been forever strengthened by the trials and sufferings I have gone through.  Our hope is in You, Lord, and you will never disappoint us.

James 1:22-25 speaks about being a doer of the word.  The book of James is one of my favorite books.  I like the example He uses “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” (James 1:23-24)

This issue has come up in the cell group I lead.  When we started our cell group we formulated a mission statement and commited ourselves to be doers of the word.  We want to walk the walk.  As a cell group we hold each other accountable and help each other grow.  Lord help me to be a doer of the word and help me lead my cell group in such a way that we all grow closer to You.

Fools have no delight in understanding
But only in airing their own opinions. Proverbs 18:2

I like this proverb.  I know people who don’t seek or want understanding because they are so heavily fixed on their own opinions.  These people I have found it difficult to learn from because they themselves do not learn, but believe they are always right.  As a pastor, I want to delight in understanding and not hinder others understanding with my own opinions.

Luke 6:38 & 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 describes giving and this is often used in connection with our tithes and offerings.  Lately I have felt the conviction of forgetting at times to give my tithe.  I work on Sunday’s in the children’s ministry and it sometimes slips my mind.  I know how important it is to give and the blessings that God pours out and I want to be a cheerful giver.  Lord help me to give to you want you deserve.  Remove from me any selfish and forgive me for not giving unto you like I should.  I want to offer you good gifts from my heart.

I will remember Your Works, O Lord;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of Long ago.
I will meditate on all your works
And consider all Your mighty deeds.  Psalm 77:11-12

God is so good.  Sometimes I don’t give Him enough credit for the great things He has done in my life.  When I’m having a rough day, I need to remember Your works.  I need to remember how you brought me to the place I am today and how you were always faithful.  Thank you for your love and enduring faithfulness and I give you all the praise and Glory for all the works you have done in my life.

2/3 Your Money - Chapter 4

“Loving Money separets us from God. A close relationship exists between money management and an allegiance to God.”

“God wants His hand on our wallets. If He controls that, He holds our hearts too. If we give Him both, He will bless what we do.”

I tithe pretty regularly. I confess I sometimes miss a week. I need to manage my finances better and give God my first fruits. Lord I know you will bless me through giving. I want you to take complete control of my finances. I’m tired of worring about them and I need to surrender them to you. I will trust in you and tithe.

I will not let Your Word depart from my mouth, O Lord, but I will meditate on it day and night, so that I may be careful to do all that is written in it; for then I will pe prosperous and I will act wisely. Joshua 1:8

I confess not meditating on God’s word as I should. I don’t meditate on it day and night. I need to spend more time with God and study His word. Lord speak to me through your Word. I want to spend more time meditaing you your word and drawing closer to you. Forgive me for not putting you first in my life.
