1.    Do you know how much you spend on a monthly basis? No, I am not sure how much I spend monthly.

2.    How much time are you willing to give to weekly money management? I think the 2 hours a week will be a good start.  I need to create a budget in a spreadsheet.  My brother has offered to help.

3.    What are you feelings about keeping a budget?  I want to but, I have a problem maintaining one.

4.    What money habits do you need to change?  I need to eat out less and starting bringing my lunch to work.  I need to complete my FASA and look into financial aid.

2/9 Your Money - Chapter 5

Posted on February 9, 2007

1.    How and way was this debt incurred?  This debt was incurred from purchasing my finance’s engagement ring and paying for the expenses for modular week.

2.    How do you feel about this debt?  I wish it were gone, and I have consolidated it and making over $400 payments on it each month.

3.    Are you willing to work on a debt reduction plan?  I have, but I did so by consolidating all the debt to one 0% interest card.  I now make the largest payment I can each month towards that.

4.    How can you begin reducing your debt today?  Not using the credit cards for purchases anymore.  Save money on lunches and eating out.

Fools have no delight in understanding
But only in airing their own opinions. Proverbs 18:2

I like this proverb.  I know people who don’t seek or want understanding because they are so heavily fixed on their own opinions.  These people I have found it difficult to learn from because they themselves do not learn, but believe they are always right.  As a pastor, I want to delight in understanding and not hinder others understanding with my own opinions.

Luke 6:38 & 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 describes giving and this is often used in connection with our tithes and offerings.  Lately I have felt the conviction of forgetting at times to give my tithe.  I work on Sunday’s in the children’s ministry and it sometimes slips my mind.  I know how important it is to give and the blessings that God pours out and I want to be a cheerful giver.  Lord help me to give to you want you deserve.  Remove from me any selfish and forgive me for not giving unto you like I should.  I want to offer you good gifts from my heart.

I will remember Your Works, O Lord;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of Long ago.
I will meditate on all your works
And consider all Your mighty deeds.  Psalm 77:11-12

God is so good.  Sometimes I don’t give Him enough credit for the great things He has done in my life.  When I’m having a rough day, I need to remember Your works.  I need to remember how you brought me to the place I am today and how you were always faithful.  Thank you for your love and enduring faithfulness and I give you all the praise and Glory for all the works you have done in my life.

2/3 Your Money - Chapter 4

“Loving Money separets us from God. A close relationship exists between money management and an allegiance to God.”

“God wants His hand on our wallets. If He controls that, He holds our hearts too. If we give Him both, He will bless what we do.”

I tithe pretty regularly. I confess I sometimes miss a week. I need to manage my finances better and give God my first fruits. Lord I know you will bless me through giving. I want you to take complete control of my finances. I’m tired of worring about them and I need to surrender them to you. I will trust in you and tithe.

“Beware of worshiping the things God gives rather than the Lord who gives them. Material things are lovely to own, but they generate personal tragedy when they own us.” pg. 42

1. Do you currently take one complete day off each week to rest? Why, or Why not?
Because I have services on Sunday I uses Saturday as my day of rest. I realize how much I need that day to rest. I used to have puppet and drama rehearsals for Church on Saturday, but working everyday of the week became overwhelming.

2.What can you take to heart from the rich young ruler’s example?
We really don’t own aything untill we can give it away. Jesus free my heart.

I will not let Your Word depart from my mouth, O Lord, but I will meditate on it day and night, so that I may be careful to do all that is written in it; for then I will pe prosperous and I will act wisely. Joshua 1:8

I confess not meditating on God’s word as I should. I don’t meditate on it day and night. I need to spend more time with God and study His word. Lord speak to me through your Word. I want to spend more time meditaing you your word and drawing closer to you. Forgive me for not putting you first in my life.

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

This is one of my favorite verses. As I delight in the Lord I know He will give me the desires of my heart. It is through my personal relationship with Jesus and delighting in God that His desires become my desires.

Lord as I delight in You, I know you promise me the desires of my heart. I pray that you fill my heart with desires.

I am not to seek my own good, but rather the good of others. 1 Corinthians 10:24

This is something I need to work on. I find myself jealous of other peoples success and I know I should seek their good and build them up.

Lord give me a servants heart that seeks the good of others.

As I reflect upon God’s faithfulness, I look back at all the things God has brought me through. He is faithful through the hardest times in life and I know God will be faithful in the future. God is my Rock, my sure foundation.

Your love and faithfulness endures forever. You are so good to me. I will daily praise you for you lovingkindness.

1/27 Your Money Chapter 2

Posted on January 27, 2007

1. On a scale 1-10, how much effort do you apply to your work?
8 - I love my job and I believe I give it my all everyday. As a Children’s Pastor, I get paid to serve the Lord. Many of the principles mentioned in the chapter have been taught to me by my mentors growing up in the ministry. I know I’m not in the children’s ministry to make the big bucks, but God will supply all my needs.

2. How might you need to surrender as a living sacrifice, at work and in all of life?
I need to remember that I am working for God not man. I find my self seeking the approval of man, and recognition is nice at times, but I need to seek God’s approval and do what He calls me to. I know His plans are better than mine and sometimes His plans take time.

Lord I want you to assume responsibility for my life and control it. I lay my life down before you as a living sacrifice, mold me and use me. Lead me and guide me as I serve in the Children’s Ministry and continue my education.

I cry out to You, O God Most High, to You who fulfill
Your purpose for me. Psamlm 57:2

I am reminded how in the ministry it is not me who fulfills my purpose for me, but God. God is the One who fulfills His purpose for me and the ministry He has me in.

Lord I cry out to you with an open heart. Fulfill Your purpose for me. Help me let go of anything that would hinder me from my destiny. I am your servant and I want to serve you all of my days.

Proverbs 31

This chapter is special to me. When I proposed to my fiance, I quoted Proverbs 31. I got down on my one knee and said with all my heart, “Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She will not hinder him but help him all her life.” Proverbs 31:10-12

I know my fiance is my gift from God. I never knew I could love someone the way I love her. She enriches my life and I know God has great things in store for us. Lord, I pray that as we continue our pre-marital classes and counseling that you would strengthen the foundation of our marriage. Help me to be the husband that she deserves.

“Far be it from me that I should sin against You, Lord, by ceasing to pray for others.” 1 Samuel 12:23; Phil 2:3-4

Reading these scriptures convicted me. I realize that I don’t spend enough time in prayer for others. I often pray for my own needs, but I need to pray for others more. Lord help me to intercede and lift up the needs of those around me.

1 Samuel 12:24
I desire to “serve the lord in truth with all my heart”. I remember being taught the importance of serving the lord as a youth volunteer in my church. It was rewarding to know I was doing something for God. Today, I help train youth volunteers in ministry and I pray God makes me a leader that can teach them and train them into the servants He wants them to be.

Isaiah 11:6-9

It’s interesting how the verse says “and a little child will lead them”. As a children’s pastor verses which speak about children interest me. Perhaps a child will lead them because children would not have know a world where a calf and a lion did not get along.

“I will not let my heart be troubled. I will trust in You and also in Christ” John 14:1

I admit at times I let my heart get troubled. I let the weight of the world get on my shoulders and I start to worry about the tasks before me. The solution is trusting in the Lord and let him take control.
Lord help me to let go of my worries and trust in you. I’m tired of having a troubled heart and I want the joy of the Lord to be my strength.

How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity! Psalm 133:1

The church as a whole needs more unity. To often christians become divided on doctrinal issues. Some christians I’ve met just argue for the sake of an arguement. Instead focusing on our differences, Christians need to build each other up and encourage one another. It is through unity that God can use the church for his purposes.

I pray that God instills in me the qualities that bring people together in unity. Lord help me to live in unity with my brother and sisters.

1/19 Your Money Intro & Chapter 1

Intro pp. 8-12

Financial freedom for me would be getting out of credit card debt, paying off our student loans and owning our own home.

Some fears I have about working toward financial freedom are how long it is going to take and possible surprises like children.

Money worries have been starting to bother me as I prepare for marriage.  My father has always been such a good financial supporter for the family and I want to do the same.  I need to trust in the Lord and believe that He will supply all my needs.  I need to stop worrying about debt and set up a good monthly budget to handle my finances.

Chapter 1 pp. 16-26

List of words that describe my feelings about debt:

holds you back
hinders me from owning a home
I consider money a blessing.  In the ministry I feel blessed to be paid for serving the Lord.  I know every effort I make God will reward me and the financial reward of a paycheck is a blessing that I will never take for granted.

Todays readings for My Relationship With Others were Gen. 2:18,22-24 and Matt. 19:4-6; Mark 10:6-9 and they were special to me. They describe the relationship between husband and wife. In less than 3 months I will marry the love of my life and we will become one. I know our relationship is ordained by God and I see the way she completes me. I was meant for her and she was meant for me. After all she has my rib. :) I look forward to the amazing life together God has for us.

I pray as we go through our pre-marital classes and counseling that God would continue to lay the foundations of a strong marriage. Lord help me become the husband that she deserves.

I will not let love and truth leave me;
I will bind them around my neck
and write them on the tablet of my heart. Proverbs 3:3

The verse spoke to me. Love and truth are so important that we should bind it around our necks and write them on the tablet of my heart. This verse goes along with ____ - I’ve hidden your word in my heart so that I might not sin against you.

This is something I need to do. Lord help me to hide the Word in my heart and write love and truth on the tablet of my heart. Help me memorize scripture so I can resist temptation. I pray I know Your love and truth more each day.

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

This scripture reminds me of the times my friends helped me through adversity in my life. I lead a small group each week and the past few weeks we have been studying adversity and how God uses adversity to build character. Despite how hard things may be adversity can have positive effects. I’m thankful that I have friends who love me and help me get through the trying times of life.
