My love must be sincere.  I will hate what is evil and cling to what is good.  Romans 12:9

To hate what is evil and cling to what is good isn’t easy.  Do I truly hate what is evil?  I confess at times I do not hate sin.  Lord I am sorry because at times my love has not been sincere.  I want to fall in love with You.  Give me conviction and help me to resist temptation and overcome the trials in my life.  I desire to cling to what is good and I turn my back on evil.

FAITH

Faith is the certainty of things hoped for and the conviction of the things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1

This is one of my favorite verses.  Faith is something that must be strengthened and tested daily.  Today Lord I put my hope in You.  There are things I do not understand, but my faith is in You and I choose to obey you.  Help me to be obedient in faith.  I want the type of Faith that Paul had.  Give me the courage to finish the race You have set before me.

I will continually offer to You a sacrifice a praise.  I praise You in the morning and bless Your name because You have been so good to me.   Thank you for my health and keeping me strong.  Thank you for my future wife, my family, and friends.   Each person You have placed in my life greatly enriches it.  Help me to be more thankful for the blessings You give.  I want to remember to thank You.

I will imitate You, O God, as Your beloved child and I will walk in love, just as Christ loved me and gave Himself up for me as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to You. Ephesians 5:1-2

There is nothing I want to do more than imitate You Jesus.  Growing up the like the popular commercial with Michael Jordan stating “I want to be like Mike”.  I want to be like Jesus.  I will walk in love and as my relationship with Jesus strengthens each day I will learn to imitate Him more and more.  Just as Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice, Lord I give you my all today, have Your way in me.  Use me for Your glory.

1 Corinthians 12:12 and Ephesians 4:16 describe the body of Christ. Jesus you are the head of the body. Lead us and guide us so we can fulfill the work you have for each of us. I love to see how You have called us each differently and given us each different gifts. Your work amazes me daily. I am thankful for the part you have given me. As I continue to serve you help me to grow in love and edify others.

Lord, raise up your victorious Army.

John 14:2-3 describes how Jesus went to prepare a place for us.  I love to think about Heaven.  My grandmother used to always tell me about heaven and I know she is there now.  Heaven has always been a real place to me.  Why isn’t thought of as real by so many?   Why don’t Christians and Pastors teach about heaven more?

Lord as I teach your children, Holy Spirit move in their hearts and help them know that You are preparing a special place for them.

Just as I presented the members of my body as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing lawlessness, so I now present my members as slaves to righteousness, leading to holiness.  Romans 6:19

I present myself as a slave to righteousness.  I choose to live a life of self-control and conviction.  I don’t want to go back to the things I used to do, instead I want to be led by your Holy Spirit in holiness.  I know it is impossible to do it on my own and that is why I will trust in You and find strength in You.  I love You for Your mercy and grace.

You are the Lord, the God of all people. Nothing is too difficult for you. Jeremiah 32:27

Lord, nothing is too difficult for You. Help me to remember that everyday. I praise you for always taking care of me. I see how your hand is upon my life and when things seem difficult for me all I have to do is rely on You. I offer you all my worship and thank you for continuing Your good work in me.

Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:12; Luke 14:11; 18:14

I don’t want to exalt myself. Humble me Lord and may people see You in my life. I exalt You.

John 15:1-2,4 describes how Jesus is the vine, the Father is the gardener, and we are the branches.  “While every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”  Thank you Jesus for being the vine and Father for being the loving gardener.  I pray that I bear more fruit and as I bear more fruit prepare me for the pruning.  I want to be pruned so I can become the man of God You want me to be.  I want to abide in you as you abide in me.  I give myself to you, have Your way in me.

As I reflect upon Philippians 2:5-8 and Hebrews 2:17-18 and The Works of God, I am overwhelmed by your Love. Jesus, You became a servant and humbled yourself and became obedient to death on a cross. Thank you, Thank you Lord. Help me to humble myself daily and obey your will.

Because You Yourself suffered when You were tempted, You are able to help us who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18

Lord as I battle with temptation help me to never forget that you suffered the very temptation that I am dealing with. I’m not alone when I am tempted, Jesus has my back. Lord continue to complete the work you started in my life over modular week. I pray that I do not become complacent and not continue to grow in Your Word and Spirit. In Jesus Name Amen.

John 14:27 & 16:33 speaks of the peace that Jesus gives us. Although we go through trials an tribulations, we can have peace and be of good cheer because Christ has overcome the world. When I think of this it reassures me that everything is going to be alright. The world is not alway an easy place, but with Christ is in control and He will grant us peace in the midst of our troubles.

Lord, Your peace I desire, not the peace the world can give me but your ever sustaining peace. Today I will not let my heart be troubled or fear tommorow because You are with me. I praise You for the peace that you give.

Jeremiah 12:3 says, “You know me, O Lord; You see me and test my thoughts about you.”  It’s it wonderful to konw that God knows me.  The creator of Heaven and Earth actually knows me and loves me.  It’s interesting how this verse says God tests our thoughts about him.  Lord are my thoughts about you what they should be?  Test my thoughts and transform me into the Man of God you want me to be.

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Eph. 5:33

As I enter into this covenant relationship with my wife April 13th 2007, I pray that God would begin to work on my heart and help me become the husband that Leslee deserves.  We’ve completed a pre-maritial class and I believe we have learned a great deal from it, but I know much will be learned through our personal experiences and trials.  I look forward to loving my wife more and more each day as we share life together.  Lord I commit my marriage to you and have your way with us.

Psalm 139:13-16 is a special passage.  It speaks about how God formed me in my mother’s womb.  He made me special and knew me before I was born.  God has a very special plan for my life.

Lord you are amazing.  You truly Know me.  You made me who I am and set before me a beautiful life.  I want to know you more.  I want to live my life according to your will and fulfill the special plans you have for me.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. Proverbs 3:5-7

Lord I make this my prayer today.  I’m tired of leaning on my own understanding.  It simply will not and does not work.  I acknowledge You and I pray that You will make my path straight.  I want your wisdom and I want to turn away from evil.  Amen

Many of the devotional scriptures pertaining to Character I want to Cultivate have been touching my heart.  I believe that is because God has been working on my character as a leader in my ministry.  I want to be someone my co-workers can follow.  I have learned so much from the mentors in my life and I believe now it is time I start pouring into the lives around me.

Lord help me to be a Man after your own heart.  Cultivate the character that you want me to have.  Transform my heart and remove anything that hinders me from fulfilling Your call on my life.

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:3-5

Rejoice in our sufferings.  Sound like something no would naturally do.  However, I have experience how suffering produces perseverance.  If everything was fine and dandy all the time then our faith would never be tested.  My character and hope has been forever strengthened by the trials and sufferings I have gone through.  Our hope is in You, Lord, and you will never disappoint us.

James 1:22-25 speaks about being a doer of the word.  The book of James is one of my favorite books.  I like the example He uses “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” (James 1:23-24)

This issue has come up in the cell group I lead.  When we started our cell group we formulated a mission statement and commited ourselves to be doers of the word.  We want to walk the walk.  As a cell group we hold each other accountable and help each other grow.  Lord help me to be a doer of the word and help me lead my cell group in such a way that we all grow closer to You.
